The Grand Tour #2 - Rendering a Tree

"The Grand Tour: Getting Photorealistic at Point Reyes", simulates a small production pipeline.

TGT was conceived with the idea of bridging the gap between the technical aspects of RenderMan and the artistry of CG production. During this series we'll examine a complete RenderMan pipeline for a small studio or a single user, from the original concept to the final render, demonstrating how to optimize scenes, render efficiently, and how to use the features in RenderMan to achieve a final result with a high level of quality.

Chapter 2 - Rendering a Tree

Sub-Chapters:

Leaves

In this sub-chapter for The Grand Tour, we will go over the use of LMDiffuse in RIS. We will overview useful attributes and look at some interesting ways to render a double sided leaf shader, including the use of translucency and PxrBump.

Tree Trunk

In this sub-chapter for The Grand Tour, we will go over the use of LMDiffuse in RIS. We will overview useful attributes and look at some interesting ways to render a tree trunk, including the use of PTEX and Vector Displacements.

RibArchives Part 1

In this sub-chapter for The Grand Tour, we will go over the use of RibArchives in RIS. We will overview useful attributes and look at some ways to troubleshoot some pitfalls with Maya's Paint Effects, along with an overview of RibArchive exporting and importing.

RibArchives Part 2

In this sub-chapter for The Grand Tour, we will continue to go over the use of RibArchives in RIS. We will compare shading and breakdown a RibArchive in further detail, including its structure on disk.
